Fix the date of the brit

The mohel fixes with the parents the date of the brit-milah depending on the health of the child and the circumstances of the birth.

In principle, the ceremony takes place eight days after the birth.

There are, however, special cases that require the mohel to choose another date. The following pages explain these special cases.

  • if the child was born on a Friday evening or Saturday evening at dusk;
  • if the child’s state of health has postponed or made the brit impossible;
  • if the milah was postponed because of the state of the baby’s health.
